The first Volkswagen ID.4 models have finally arrived in the US and are making their way to dealerships across the country, with numbers expected to rise as summertime approaches.

Built on the all-new innovative modular MEB platform, VW ID. series (Intelligent Design) cars and crossovers represent Volkswagen's endeavor to make electric automobility more practical and accessible to a wider range of future-conscious car buyers. The Volkswagen ID.4 is the second full-production model of the ID. Series, and the first all-electric VW to see a US release. Here's a quick look at a few of the ID.4's notable highlights.

  • First-edition models are powered by a rear-axle motor that turns the front wheels with 201 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque. An 82-kWh lithium-ion battery pack gives the ID.4 an estimated range of 250 miles, providing real emissions-free commuting opportunities for Fletcher NC drivers.

  • Refilling the ID.4's battery takes about 7.5 hours with a standard Level 2 home charger, adding about 33 miles of range per hour. And with a DC fast charger, like those found at highway rest stops, the ID.4 can go from 5% to 80% in just 40 minutes.

  • 2021 ID.4 customers will be rewarded for their early adoption in the form of complimentary unlimited charging on the Electrify America network. The network covers more than 470 charging stations and 2,000 public DC fast chargers across the country, including one at the Sam's Club here in Asheville.

  • Electric powertrains take up less space than their combustion counterparts. This allows the ID.4 to provide impressive headroom and legroom for all passengers. The ID.4 has 30.3 cubic feet for cargo behind the rear seats and up to 64.2 cubes with them folded.

  • The First-Edition ID.4 comes standard with many advanced technologies, including a 10-inch touchscreen, multiple USB-C ports, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and advanced driver aids like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, lane-keeping, and more.
